LipiFlow®

LipiFlow® effectively removes blockages from the meibomian glands, allowing them to properly function and produce the oils that make up the top protective lipid layer of the tear film. LipiFlow® is a safe, effective, and FDA-approved procedure for meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which no pill or eye drops can cure.

During this quick 12-minute in-office procedure, we’ll use this device to apply gentle heat (only 10 degrees warmer than your normal body temperature) to the meibomian glands in your upper and lower eyelids. The heat effectively melts the obstructions, and most patients describe it as a gentle massage of the eyelids.

LipiFlow® Efficacy

According to the FDA results, patients experienced three times better gland function after just one 12-minute LipiFlow® procedure. Ninety percent of patients had significant improvement in symptoms at their first eight-week follow-up appointment. On average, their symptoms were reduced by half.

Depending on the severity and underlying cause of MGD, patients have reported positive treatment effects lasting from 12 to 36 months with one treatment.

PROKERA amniotic membrane

PROKERA is a biologic corneal bandage device made from safe and effective amniotic membrane tissue. It has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring properties that help to heal damaged eye surfaces.

PROKERA products promote faster and more effective healing of the cornea with less inflammation and scarring, leading to improved clinical outcomes with better vision. It is the only FDA-cleared therapeutic device used by eye doctors to help restore your cornea and return your eye to a normal, healthy state. PROKERA is used to heal many ocular conditions, especially keratitis where the cornea is irritated and inflamed. Patients with keratitis suffer from severe dry eye.

Your eye doctor will place the PROKERA lens on your eye. For optimal healing, it’s important to complete the PROKERA treatment period, which usually lasts 3-5 days. Your eye doctor may use tape to partially close your eyelid after they insert PROKERA.

Regener-Eyes® Ophthalmic Solution

Regener-Eyes® Ophthalmic Solution is a first-in-class, natural, biologic ophthalmic solution that is preservative-free. It contains naturally occurring anti-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines and growth factors, HC-HA/PTX3 (Pentraxin 3) (hyaluronic acid), and Collagen Types I, III, IV, V. Regener-Eyes has an excellent safety profile and there are no known contraindications.

Radiofrequency

Radiofrequency (RF) stimulates collagen production by safely delivering high-frequency electrical currents to the skin’s surface. The electrical currents generate heat, at a predetermined temperature, to increase collagen growth within the superficial and deeper layers of the skin. The increase in collagen helps tighten the skin and reduce fine line and wrinkles for smoother and younger-looking skin. This non-invasive, in-office procedure generally takes around 10 to 20 minutes to complete.

When we apply RF to the skin around your eyes, the heat melts the thick oil secretions clogging the meibomian glands. This improves tear flow and reduces inflammation around the eyes, which may be contributing to your eye condition.

In addition to the cosmetic effect of RF, it also helps relieve dry eye symptoms and makes your eyes and skin feel better.

Warm compresses

Warm compresses are a go-to home remedy to improve circulation and unclog swollen glands in the eyelids. Our doctors recommend using BRUDER Moist Heat Eye Compress, which is easy-to-use and provides effective moist heat treatment. All you need to do is microwave it for 20 seconds and then apply it to your closed eyes for 10 minutes, twice daily.

The warm compress helps stabilize the tear film, improves oil gland function, and slows down tear evaporation. Properly hydrated and lubricated eyes can expel bacteria and debris more efficiently so your eyes will feel refreshed and rejuvenated. If you don’t have this mask, you can use a clean washcloth heated in comfortably warm water from the sink or shower and apply it to your closed eyes.

Microblepharoexfoliation Deep Eye Cleaning

We offer cutting-edge technology to treat blepharitis, a common cause of dry eye. The BlephEx® or AB Max™ tool works by spinning a medical grade micro-sponge along the edges of your eyelids. This eliminates scruff, bacterial debris, and the biofilm that builds up along the lid and base of the eyelashes, removing bacteria and destroying the environment it thrives in.

Using microblepharoexfoliation, your eye doctor can now treat and prevent blepharitis by removing the lid’s biofilm, similar to how a dentist removes plaque and tartar. With regular treatments and intermittent at-home maintenance, we can finally treat a previously unsuccessfully treated disease.

Keeping your eyelids healthy is important for your eyelashes’ health and look. Along with treating blepharitis, microblepharoexfoliation also minimizes the risk of eyelid styes, infections, and the loss of lashes.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy

OptiLight intense pulsed light therapy is another advanced treatment for patients with moderate to severe dry eye, blepharitis, ocular rosacea, or meibomian gland dysfunction. The treatment helps to improve the health of the meibomian glands, which produce the oil that prevents evaporation of the tear film.

Scleral lenses

Scleral lenses are specialty contact lenses that provide better vision with the comfort of soft lenses. Another benefit of scleral lenses is that they help patients with dry eye conditions or ocular surface disease. The contact lens is filled with preservative-free saline before inserting it in the eye. This creates a moist reservoir that keeps the surface of the eye moist and healthy throughout the day while you wear the lens.
